Kayla's story is one not just of a romance, but one of a woman's struggle to rebuild herself after a life of abuse. It is a poor shadow of how most women feel after such treatment, but I hoped to convey the struggle that has to be fought within, even after the struggle to leave has been won. These women are so very strong to survive, even if they do not believe yet.

The Werewolf and the Rancher

Nature can only be fought for so long, but this wolf is skilled at fighting.....
After a life of abuse from the males in her life, the last thing Kayla wants is a man.
The only problem is she wants Randy, a human male. She would run with her children, keep them all safe from a male in their lives. Except she cannot leave, cannot run away from the male Nature has given to her as her mate.
Randy wants the woman living at the edge of the ranch. He wants her with a consuming passion. The problem is she wants nothing to do with him. She runs from him, as though scared.
He was a persistent man though. He would not let her fear or dark secrets stop him from catching his prey.

I sat down with Kayla as a simple short story, perhaps 10 pages. I didn't think her story would take long, of course I didn't realize at first the extent of her past. I truly expected her to accept Randy in just a couple more pages, but she resisted, needing a good life of her own before she could release the nightmares of her past.

Their story grew so quickly, refusing to come to an end. I finally had to take control and force them to come together. Looking at the length of the story, I am glad I stepped in. Randy's choice at the end was a spur of the moment idea, one I hadn't been sure would even be possible in the world of the story, but one I am glad I added. I am happy with their story, and know they are too.

I am hoping to write Elena and Dennis's story soon...
